Ruth Hardy Park in Palm Springs

Ruth Hardy Park is located close to downtown Palm Springs in central Palm Springs at 700 Tamarisk Way, just four blocks east of Palm Canyon Drive, this beautiful Palm Springs park is spacious and large featuring 22 acres. This lush green lawns and beautiful tree-lined park is only a short walk from downtown Palm Springs. Always great for picnics and family celebrations, outdoor grilling, tennis, plus children’s playground equipment.

Ruth Hardy Park Tennis Courts

Baristo Park in Palm Springs
Located on Calle Segundo, this park encompasses 2 acres. Amenities of Palm Springs Baristo Park include picnic tables, a basketball court, tot lot, play structures, grills, and drinking fountains. Open until 10pm.

Palm Springs DeMuth Park
Located at 4365 Mesquite Avenue, DeMuth remains Palm Springs’ largest park, extending through 61 acres of beautiful greenery. Ball fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, picnic tables, soccer fields, tot lot, drinking fountains and restroom facilities are all available. DeMuth has a great environment for picnics and a variety of outdoor sports and activities. It is also conveniently located next to the YMCA youth center. Open until 10 pm.

Palm Springs Highland Park
Located at 480 Tramview Road, this park lays across 18 acres. This park features a ballfield, basketball courts, picnic tables, grills, restroom facilities, play structures, and drinking fountains. The Desert Highland Park Gymnasium provides basketball, volleyball, badminton, and many indoor games. Highland Park is the home of the Desert Highland Unity Center, which provides a weight-lifting area and a community game room. Facility rentals are available. Open until 10 pm.

Located at 555 N. Palm Canyon Drive, this park lays on 4 acres. Park features include picnic tables and drinking fountains. Frances Stevens Park is located conveniently next to the Palm Springs playhouse and Art Center. Frances Stevens Park hosts many art and historical fairs on the weekends. Make sure to check The Desert Sun for these traveling art shows! Open until 10 pm.

Palm Springs Swimming Pool – Park

Palm Springs Dog Park
Located behind Palm Springs City Hall on Civic Drive, this fun setting spans 1 ½ acres. There are two night-lighted areas—one for large dogs and one for small dogs. Your dogs can run free without leashes, making new friends! There are park benches, shade canopies and drinking fountains. Open until 10 pm.

By far the largest public pool in Palm Springs with a capacity for 680 people, the Palm Springs city pool also offers recreational swimming for children, featuring a large seperate shallow children’s pool that is from 2 to 3 ft deep.

The wonderfully large Palm Springs public pool is outdoors under the sunshine, open for adult lap swim, recreational swim and children’s swimming year round. There are open air locker rooms and showers with (open to the blue skies above) with separate facilities for men and women.

This Palm Springs public pool for lap swim is heated to a comfortable 81 to 82 degrees in the cooler winter months. In summer months, the pool water is cooled to maintain a comfortable lap swim water temperature of approximately 78 to 82 degrees.

No Night Swim Special Summer Hours for Lap Swimming: Cancelled for 2011, no summer night lap swim hours will be available.

However, the Palm Springs City Pool has extended day-time hours for summer months of July and August 2011. From July 1 to August 31, the swim center is open Saturday and Sundays until 5:00 p.m. and Monday through Friday, the pool is open until 6:30 p.m. for lap swim.

For frequent lap swimmers, discounted punch card pool passes are available for sale at the Palm Springs Leisure Center, the Parks & Recreation administration building directly north of the Swim Center. Price for the punch pass card is $60.00 for 25 swim admissions for residents and $75.00 for non-residents, with admission punch cards for 25 admissions to the Palm Springs public pool, and $75.00 for non-residents.

City Pool Specs & History

Built in years 1974-1975, the Palm Springs public city pool (locally called the Palm Springs Swim Center) is a true Olympic-size outdoor swimming pool measuring 50 meters long by 25 yards wide in size. The gorgeous and well maintained Palm Springs public outdoor pool holds 500,000 gallons of water.

This Palm Springs public swimming pool first opened to the public in November, 1975 and was officially dedicated on December 6, 1975. (The swim center is located on what was once the Palm Springs Rodeo grounds.)

The Palm Springs pool has hosted such Olympians such as Greg Louganis, Matt Biondi, Janet Evans, Amy Van Dyken and Gary Hall Jr.
